Preparing for Purpose Pitch: Professional Outfits!
|You can find these shoes here.|
This week, I'm preparing for Purpose Pitch! If you have been following my author page on Facebook, or The Furever Home Friends on Facebook and Instagram, you know that we got some exciting news a few weeks ago!
We have been recognized as one of the top four most purposeful startups in Chicago, and as a result, we get to compete in a pitch competition (like Shark Tank!) at Chicago's coworking space 1871, in the Merchandise Mart. This Thursday, we'll be pitching for the title of Most Purposeful Startup in Chicago and up to $15,000 in grant money!
For my pitch, I've had an awesome time putting together a slideshow and practicing my presentation. Anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE going up on stage and presenting for a crowd! I'm so excited to get the Furever Home Friends message out to a room of 300+ people!
The hardest part of this preparation has been finding the right outfit. So I decided to make a post today about my search for the perfect professional outfit!
Back when I did speech & debate team, I had so many stylish suits! My grandma used to buy me suits from garage sales whenever she found them, and my mom and I were experts at scouring Goodwill and then tailoring the suits to fit perfectly.
One problem: I have gained 20+ pounds since I was 18. Trying to close these suit jackets made me realize how much I've aged. Which made me realize how much time has gone by. How am I 25 already?!
My first consideration was this red blazer, pictured in the photo below. I have so many good memories in this blazer, from winning state champion with my persuasive speech, to wearing it in the national semifinal round. Also, red is one of the Furever Home Friends colors, even though we use a darker shade in our logo.
My other option is the grey jacket pictured in this photo below. I'm second from the right in the front row, wearing brown fuzzy moccasins, in case you don't recognize me when I was much younger and more conventionally attractive:
The one thing I'm sure of: shoes! I stopped wearing heels a long time ago, since they throw my back out in a matter of seconds (again with the aging problems!). Instead, I found these shoes that I absolutely love!
They are from Tomboy Toes, and you can buy them here. (Again, nobody sponsored this post. Anyone who wants to sponsor me is welcome to, though! Hit me up.) I love these shoes because they are made of fake, vegan leather, and because they look so amazing!
What do you guys think? Should I go with the red or the grey jacket? Who has tips on how to dress to impress when you're no longer a stick-thin high schooler?
No matter what I end up wearing, I'm SO excited to have the opportunity to present my business, and I'm so honored to have been chosen as one of the finalists!
