Dog of the Day: Pepper
In continuing our one-week countdown to the Furever Home Friends release, I'm excited to announce that there are only 4 days left! Today I have another Dog of the Day to feature, in the interest of continuing to share shelter dogs' stories and spread the word about adoption!
Today's Dog of the Day is Pepper!
Pepper is a special little guy, because he's an elderly gentleman! Pepper has been living in his forever home for the past 15 years, and is another success story! His story shows how adoption can completely turn a dog's life around, and help that dog live long into his glorious senior-citizen years. Pepper's owner, Aimee Hechler, is one of our Kickstarter backers, a volunteer at Chicago's ALIVE Rescue, and my real-life best friend.
Here is what she had to say about Pepper's story!
"Pepper is currently at the ripe old age of 16--or possibly 17...they weren't sure exactly how old he was when we adopted him. He is an 8-pound mutt and is most likely a mix of Lhasa Apso and terrier. My family adopted him in 2002 from The Humane Society in Virginia.
"He was very severely neglected and abused in his puppy years before we adopted him. I don't know all the details, but I know he was frequently locked in a closet and did have signs of physical abuse as well.
"Understandably, it took a really long time for Pepper to adjust to living in a normal environment, and in some ways he still has his quirks. It took a few months for us to be able to pick him up without having him bite/growl at us, and even then we had to approach him in a very specific way and it had to be me, my mom or my dad, since he wasn't comfortable with anyone else.
"Over time, he has done great though, and while it took a years for him to come along, he's a happy, energetic and lovable dog."
Tomorrow, we'll be continuing our countdown with another Dog of the Day! Get excited as we get closer to the Furever Home Friends release on August 11!
If you're involved with a shelter, and you'd like me to feature a dog on this blog (haha, that rhymed) to help spread the word about getting that dog adopted, please comment below or email me at savyleiser@gmail.com!
Happy Monday!
Love,
Savy
